… and yet with leaves thinner, less leathery, and none turning red early (and dropping) as is so often seen on tupelos. A couple of these trees with corky bark -- not very tall trees, but with single vertical trunks, certainly not shrubs -- are in a now-dry vernal pool area, perfectly apt for tupelo. Any guesses?
