stinks-to-heaven tree
Published by espringer,
I’m sad to report that I’ve now found Ailanthus in our dear Wadsworth park. It’s an opportunist tree that has taken over cities and other degraded habitats in the northeast. It was hiding near Laurel Brook among sumacs and other trees that look similar from a distance…
Normally, I don’t like to target any species as inherently negative. But this tree literally stinks, in addition to being a stinker to remove once it gets its roots entrenched. And because its colloquial name is “Tree of heaven," I can’t resist calling it the stinks-to-heaven tree.
