silverberry (autumn olive)
Published by espringer,
This non-native species, which tends to crowd other species out wherever it gets a foothold, produces edible fruit that is sour but packed with nutrients. Notice tiny silver dots on the berries, and a silvery underside on the leaves. A similar species, "russian olive" (neither are olives at all), has more of a silvery sheen even on the upper side of leaves. The leaves are narrower, and the fruit is less round with a more noticeable pit, but both are edible.
