Pileated woodpecker

The thrumming percussion of a woodpecker is common in the woods. It's uncommon for me to get close enough to figure out which tree it's on, let alone get around the right side to see through the camera. This handsome woodpecker happened to be close to the trail, which was fortunate, since the snow was knee-deep, and I only had to wade a few yards away from the path to get a clear look.
