Overview of dams at Wadsworth
Published by espringer,
The Coginchaug River powered four mills in the Wadsworth area. An impoundment slightly behind Big Falls powered a cotton mill, but only some stonework and concrete water-structures remain; The Pistol Factory building is still magnificently standing, converted into a private residence. The Powder Mill is off the main trails of the park. The rushing sound of the Tidgewell falls is easily heard along the high portion of the Main Trail. The dam still belong to an industrial property visible from Route 157.
This map, from 1859, shows the four Coginchaug Mills as well as one mill on Laurel Brook, just upstream of its confluence with the Coginchaug.
